A name tied to Murray may appear in a city contact list, a school roster, an owner index, or a record of an earlier resident. Murray people directories span current civic contacts and deep local history, with different search tools for each task. Some list direct contact details, while others connect a person to a parcel, profession, business, burial place, or family story.

Which Murray People Directories Work

Murray has no single directory that covers every kind of person or every era. The city staff search is best for a current official. Murray City School District publishes leadership and responsibility contacts. Salt Lake County property systems connect names with parcels, while Utah license and business systems identify professional or company roles. For older residents, the strongest Murray directories live with the Utah Historical Society, Murray Museum, city cemetery, and genealogy collections.

Choose by question, not just by name. Official contacts belong in agency rosters. A street address points toward owner and reverse directories. A profession calls for a state license lookup. Family history may require several Murray people directories because names shift across census, cemetery, city-directory, school, and museum sources.

Search Murray's Civic Directory

The Murray City staff directory searches public-duty contacts by department or person. Its category menu reaches the Mayor, Council, Recorder, Finance, Justice Court, Library, Museum, cemetery, utilities, public safety, parks, planning, and many other city units. Results show the fields needed to reach an office without exposing a private profile.

The inspected Mayor entry, for example, includes Brett A. Hales, his title, department, and office phone. A missing person may still be reached through the department's main line or City Recorder. The live Murray staff search shown here makes the category, first-name, and last-name routes visible.

The form confirms that Murray's civic directory is built for official roles and work contact, not personal details. Utah.gov works at the next level as an agency and public-contact list, but research found no verified statewide employee-name portal. The Utah agency directory appears in this view as the right bridge when the needed office is run by the state.

Use it to identify an agency and its contact route, then switch to that agency's own roster if one is published.

Murray School Directory Beyond SSO

The public Murray City School District Office directory lists leaders and staff across business services, communications, facilities, transportation, technology, nutrition, teaching and learning, and other functions. Entries can show a name, role, phone, email, building, address, or hours. Its current personnel PDF adds Board of Education office and precinct, district administration, coordinators, support staff, and responsibility areas.

The navigation item marked “Employees” leads to a ParentSquare sign-in, not to a public employee search. That does not mean the directory is closed. The public District Office page and the one-page 2025-26 personnel roster remain the supported routes. When a campus contact is absent, the district main line or topic-specific office can route the call.

Record-loss myth: Murray elementary records from 1951 through 1962 were not preserved. Permanent high-school transcripts, the 1950 Census, Utah Archives, and county property records are the documented substitutes.

This gap matters to family researchers. A school directory or yearbook can add context, but it cannot recreate a record set that the district says is gone.

Note: The public personnel PDF remains useful when the employee navigation sends a visitor to the private sign-in screen.

Murray Owner Records as Directories

The Salt Lake County Assessor turns an owner name, address, or parcel number into a current property lead. For a person, the older interface accepts at least the first three letters and uses the format “LAST, FIRST.” The parcel ID then links the tax and map systems. The Recorder's free route is property-keyed, so it works best after the Assessor has supplied that number.

A parcel is the county's numbered property unit. The situs address is the physical location, while a mailing address is used for tax correspondence. Keep those meanings separate. The GIS can confirm boundaries and map context, and Recorder Data Services can add recorded documents, parcel-number history, legal descriptions, plats, and chain-of-title relationships. Detailed images or copies may require paid access or a request.

For request steps, fees, and legal-access rules, consult Murray public records access. The owner roll functions as a directory here; that other resource covers the records system behind it.

Note: Tax-sale notices show a Murray parcel's delinquency status, not proof that ownership has finally transferred.

Murray Professional Directory Search

Utah's Division of Professional Licensing, or DOPL, offers a free statewide check by name and profession or by license number. The name tab can match the beginning of a name or find text contained within it. Profession and license-board choices narrow common surnames. Results identify the licensee, profession or type, number, current status, and expiration.

The Utah professional license directory shown here supports both name and license-number paths.

That structure helps separate people who share a surname by regulated field and credential status.

  • Use Name plus profession when only a person's identity is known.
  • Use the core license number to return its associated licenses.
  • Add the optional four-digit identifier to isolate one license.
  • Check the Utah State Bar directory for attorneys and licensed paralegal practitioners.
  • Use USBE CACTUS for Utah educator credentials.

Note: A license match confirms the published credential record, while the relevant board can answer questions about its meaning.

Murray Business and Claim Directories

The Utah Corporations search hub offers more than a company-name index. Business Entity Search can return registration number, type, status, dates, address, and filed principal or registered-agent data. Registered Principal Search reverses the question: enter a person's name to find associated Utah entities. That is the useful insider move when the person is known but the exact firm name is not.

The Utah business-name search pictured here is one official route into entity records.

Pair a state entity result with the Murray Area Chamber directory, whose text search and member categories cover more than 100 businesses and organizations. Unclaimed property is another name directory with a different purpose. It can reveal property held by the state for a person or business, although a claim requires proof. The free Utah Unclaimed Property search shown here is the official starting point.

A name match is a lead, not an award of funds. Follow the state claim process for identity and ownership review.

Murray Museum Family Directories

Murray Museum holds the most local set of named family material. More than 300 cataloged family biographies and files sit beside over 56 oral histories, high-school yearbooks, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, donated records, historic-property files, and photographs. Staff can make a brief check for a family file. Deeper work is onsite, and copying may cost.

The restored Cahoon Mansion also holds aerial images reaching 1937. Those views can connect a household to a farm, smelter area, street, or subdivision before a modern address took shape. An official inquiry form may be emailed to museum staff, and out-of-state visitors should call ahead because staffing is part-time.

Murray Historical Directory Years

R.L. Polk Salt Lake City and valley directories form Murray's verified directory run from 1924 through 2002 at the Utah Historical Society. Alphabetical volumes move from a resident or business name to an address. Geographic volumes reverse that route by arranging entries around streets and addresses. The Utah Archives research guides and Archives catalog extend the search to government series that have no online name index.

The Utah Historical Society also preserves Murray municipal and history records in Mss B 814 for 1936 through 1976, plus the Mss C 814 photograph collection. These sources reach beyond a plain name listing into fire chiefs, civic groups, municipal projects, photos, and drafts of local history.

Alphabetical directory
Starts with a surname, person, firm, or institution and returns its listed address.
Geographic directory
Starts with a street or address and identifies the listed occupant or business.
Reverse directory
Another term for address-first or criss-cross searching.
Family file
A museum collection of biographical material gathered around a Murray family name.

Pair a Polk year with the nearest public census, then test the address against museum aerials and county property files. That sequence can show whether a household stayed put while a street label or city boundary changed.

South Cottonwood Directory Search

A Murray directory search can fail when the place name is too new for the record. Before the post office adopted “Murray” in 1883, sources may identify the area as South Cottonwood, Cottonwood, Big Cottonwood, or Mississippi Ward. Test each form in archive catalogs, censuses, church registers, newspapers, and family collections.

Address form matters too. Murray uses the Salt Lake Valley coordinate grid along with named streets and directional letters. Preserve E, W, and S when they appear. In a geographic Polk volume, compare nearby cross streets before deciding two forms name the same location. A postal ZIP, school zone, or utility boundary does not by itself prove that a past address was inside Murray.

Note: Civil marriage licensing begins later than early settlement, so church, cemetery, family, and newspaper directories may carry the older trail.

Murray Burial and Library Directories

The official Murray City Cemetery page offers a GIS-linked grave search and an office fallback. Check a burial name in the city map, the Utah burial database, and FamilySearch because spelling and plot details can differ. Block and lot maps add location context. The cemetery office can help when the client-rendered search does not expose a clear result.

Murray Library is a FamilySearch affiliate, which can provide added image access for genealogy work. Its official resource list also points to Utah Online Public Library and OpenAthens services for cardholders. Research did not verify exact library holdings or years for physical city directories, reverse books, telephone books, obituary indexes, or named commercial genealogy databases. Do not assign the Historical Society's Polk run to the library. The Murray Library genealogy resource screen shown here confirms its affiliate and online-access role.

The screenshot supports the library access channel while leaving unverified physical directory years unstated.

Current household white pages were not verified through an authoritative local source. Official civic contacts, owner rolls, business filings, cemetery records, and historical volumes are the sound alternatives. Private community and congregational rosters should not be treated as open Murray people directories unless their keepers publish them for public use.
